Classic Lecture Rooms

Information Technology Services supports 101 of the 131 general purpose classrooms & lecture halls on UNL's City and East campuses.  Traditionally, the level of technology assigned to each room has been directly proportional to the number of seats.  These rooms were designed to allow users to easily display content from a variety of sources (Computers, DVD/VHS players, Document Cameras & Slide Projectors). However, as pedagogies continue to evolve with web 2.0 as a backbone, we are seeing significant shifts in classroom technology design.

For now, the technology provided in our classic classrooms and lecture halls continues to be heavily used. However, we are now beginning to take advantage of mobile devices, installing classrooms with base level technology at a significantly lower cost. Cutting overall equipment cycle costs for the majority of our small rooms will allow us to transform many larger classrooms and labs into high tech, collaborative, active learning spaces.

Media Ready (MR)

Cost-effective. In the near future, more small rooms will become Media Ready with an emphasis on delivering HD video from mobile devices. ITS supports 19 MR rooms

  • lower installation, maintenance & energy costs

  • ideal for very small rooms where furnishings that house the equipment would otherwise encroach on seating space

  • great for rooms with chalkboards, where the dust can damage permanently installed computing equipment

Small Classroom (SCL)

Powerful, easy to use.  The small classrooms standard features a PC, document camera and laptop connection. Most of these rooms are configured to take advantage of PowerPoint's Presenter View, allowing instructors to view their notes on the monitor while students see only the slideshow. IS supports 55 SCL rooms users may present course materials using several mediums with ease  incorporates a consistent user interface available in over 80 classrooms campus wide remote support & maintenance for computer, projector and control system is built in nonessential equipment is powered down upon exiting the system, saving energy overall design is theft/tampering resistant

Large Classroom (LCL)

Similar to a small classroom, but with Assistive Listening systems for students with hearing impairments.  In the near future, several Large Classrooms will be converted to Collaborative Learning Spaces (CLS), offering flexible seating, Adobe Connect & Camtasia Relay Lecture capture. IS supports 4 LCL rooms

  • students in the back of a large room can hear just as well as those in the front

  • volume level may be adjusted appropriately for individual instructors

  • a hearing assistance device is available for those with a hearing impairment

  • microphone output may also be used to capture lectures for on-line distribution

Lecture Hall (LH)

Whether single or dual projection (DPL), these rooms can handle anything!  Several lecture halls are currently piloting OpenCast Lecture capture. And get your students participating with clickers! All ITS lecture halls are already equipped with the hardware.  ITS supports 6 LH & 17 DPL rooms can accommodate nearly any type of speaking event easily adapts to new technologies
