This error may be caused by Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) being enabled. You can disable ICS in two ways:

Per Adapter:

  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Click on Control Panel.
  3. Click on View Network Status and Tasks
  4. Click on Change adapter settings
  5. Right-click the shared connection and choose Properties
  6. Click the Sharing tab
  7. Clear the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection checkbox
  8. Click OK

System Wide:

  1. Click the Start button (Windows' orb)
  2. Type: services.msc and press ENTER
  3. Double-Click on Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)
  4. Change Startup Type to Disabled
  5. Reboot the computer

This document describes what to do when an Interprocess Communication Depot error appears during installation of the UNL VPN AnyConnect client on Windows Vista or Windows 7.

When installing the UNL VPN client through automated install or manual install, you may receive the following error:

The vpn client agent was unable to create the interprocess communication depot.

This error is caused by Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) being enabled. You can disable ICS in two ways:

*To date, this error has only been experienced on Windows Vista machines.

 

This error is received because Protected Mode is enabled in Internet Explorer.  There are two solutions to this: 1.Disable Protected Mode until the install is complete or 2. Add the VPN address into the trusted sites in IE.

 

Disabling protected mode in IE

  1. Go to Internet Options.
  2. Select the Security Tab
  3. Select Internet in the “Zones” box at the top of the window
  4. Uncheck “Enable Protected Mode”.
  5. Restart Internet Explorer
  6. Try the VPN installation process again
  7. Starting at Step number 1, go back through the steps and re-enable Protected mode for the Internet Zone.

Adding the VPN address to the Trusted Sites

  1. Go to Internet Options.
  2. Select the Security Tab
  3. Select Trusted Sites in the “Zones” box at the top of the window
  4. Click the “Sites” button
  5. Enter https://vpn.unl.edu/+CSCOE+/logon.html in the “Add this website to the zone” field and click add.
  6. Click “Close”
  7. Click “OK”
  8. Restart Internet Explorer
  9. Try the VPN installation process again

 

 

This Error may appear on Mac OS X

The issue can be resolved if you restart the service after you close the VPN client in this way:

 

To stop:

sudo kextunload -b com.cisco.nke.ipsec

 

To start:

sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/CiscoVPN/CiscoVPN
