Application and System Stewardship


This set of best practices addresses application and system stewardship but, what is meant by stewardship?

Per the Merriam-Webster dictionary stewardship is "the conducting, supervising, or managing of something; especially : the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one's care".

Per stewardship is "the responsible overseeing and protection of something considered worth caring for and preserving".

In the context of applications and systems, stewardship entails the careful and responsible management of application and system resources (e.g., hardware, software, middleware, interfaces, network, personnel, etc.).  It involves doing the necessary and prudent things to ensure that applications and systems will be available and functioning properly whenever and whereever they are needed and to whomever is appropriate.
