Services Onboarding Guide

The intent of this Services Onboarding Guide is to provide a simple, high level guide to the process for planning and implementing any IT service. This guide should be consulted for both replacement of an existing service and the creation of an uniquely new service. Once ITS leadership decides to implement a service, the following document outlines steps for that process.  The decision to onboard a service should not be made in secret and should involve the ITDirectors Plus team.

Audience & intended use:
This guide will serve as a starting place for the Directors Plus team to ensure that important steps or considerations are not missed and, consequently, it is not expected that each member of ITS will utilize this document in the process of onboarding. Directors Plus individual responsibilities are indicated in the Key Categories and Responsibilities section.  Each Key Categories and Responsibilities designee will either sign off or offer a suitable reason for exemption for sign off for each of the requirements defined within Milestones.

It is not intended that this document will contain detailed procedures necessary to fulfill each requirement.  Instead, each of the responsible areas (as defined in Key Categories and Responsibilities) will describe and maintain these steps as appropriate within their respective areas.  It is not possible to anticipate all variables in a generalized document, so each area should consider elements that are unique to the candidate for onboarding beyond the scope of this guide.

There are five milestones in the onboarding process: Conceptualize Requirements, Rationalize Requirements, Procurement / Development Requirements, Test Implementation, and Production Implementation.

Within each milestone are key categories representing a checklist of items from functionally different areas of ITS.  A representative for each of the key categories will be responsible for review and either approval or exemption of each of the category items.
