Information Technology Services (ITS) offers a broad range of services designed to meet the computing, communications, and networking needs of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) faculty, staff and students. ITS provides:
- products and services for the coordination of voice, video and data technologies;
- support for the integration of multimedia into the curriculum; and
- a single information technology support group for UNL—coordinating and supporting the needs of Teaching, Research, Outreach, and Administration.
ITS was formed in 1995 and was first headed by Kent Hendrickson, Associate Vice-Chancellor until February, 2008.

UNL’s Chief Information Officer
Rick Haugerud
ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT FOR IT AND INTERIM CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER
Rick Haugerud has served as Interim Chief Information Officer for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus since July 1, 2024. In this role, Haugerud reports jointly to the UNL chancellor and the vice president of information technology for the NU system.
Haugerud — who began his career at Nebraska as a student worker in UNL’s Telecommunications Center in 1984 — has been serving as assistant vice president for IT security for the NU system, overseeing information security and serving as a member of the Information Technology Services senior leadership team. He will retain those duties for the interim period. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UNL and has been involved in the Big Ten Academic Alliance, Educause and the Midwest Higher Education Compact, among other higher education and IT-focused groups.
Campus Leadership
Campus chief information officers at UNL (Rick Haugerud) and UNK (Andrea Childress) and their teams report to Bret Blackman, Vice President for Information Technology for the University of Nebraska system and is also the UNO Chief Information Officer. Both UNL and UNK CIOs will also maintain current campus reporting relationships through a dotted line model.

Information Technology Services has aligned into a single, unified IT operation serving our campuses in a more cohesive and collaborative manner.
The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) is currently integrating with Nebraska Medicine, and will work very closely as part of the OneIT Initiative on procurement and standardized technologies.
